Rome cracks down on fake centurions who charge tourists exorbitant sums for photographs

Their forebears managed to vanquish Britons, Gauls and Dacians, but Rome’s modern-day legionaries and centurions now find themselves under attack from the capital’s authorities.

For years, dozens of touts have made a lucrative living from dressing up in helmets, sandals and breast plates, charging tourists to be photographed alongside them at popular attractions such as the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain.
