Oded Shoseyov, a professor of plant molecular biology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, created Chef-It as an on-demand veggie burger-printing machine.
The 3D food printer is designed to print with plant-based ingredients like cellulose, proteins, fats and seasoning and put out a patty in a matter of minutes.
The team behind Chef-It first began prototyping their machine in 2013 following an investment from the Israeli government’s food technology and innovation fund. While the machine is currently capable of simultaneously printing and cooking a plant-based patty in 10 minutes, the team is now raising funding to drastically reduce the production time to just three minutes. Ultimately, Chef-It is has the potential to offer a convenient alternative to conventional meat burgers and aims to disrupt the fast food burger industry.
