What comes to mind when you think of France? The Palace of Versailles? The Seine River? Perhaps a crisp baguette?
You might notice that one of those things is distinctly not like the others: the humble baguette has not been honored with UNESCO World Heritage status.
While a loaf of bread may seem like an unlikely UNESCO honoree, the honor doesn’t necessarily have to be given to a place. In 2017, for example, Naple’s pizza was given the title. Now, French President Emmanuel Macron is calling for the treasured bread of France to get the same treatment.
